Welcome Center
Culture Program

Since one year the Welcome Center offers a diverse culture program, which has been a great success in 2012. Last year we have been in Hamburg and Görlitz, discovered the beautiful castles above the Elbe river and visited the famous Sistine Madonna's birthday exhibition at the Zwinger, went to Pillnitz on a steam boat, had a guided tour around the Dresden airport and were hiking through the vineyards of Radebeul with wine tastings and wonderful sights on the autumn landscape.

The culture program is not only about getting to know Germany and the German culture, but also a great possibility to meet other international researchers and German scientists.

This is, what the participants think about the culture program:

"The excursion to the vineyard was really great experience. Not only did I learn more about Saxonian vine making history but I also met lots of international PhD students and young researchers. Still I am in contact up to date. Thanks a lot and I look forward to the next trip!"

(Galina Denisova, Russia)

"We would like to thank you and your colleagues for your good programs for international researchers in 2012. Certainly this kinds of programs can help internationals to have good knowledge about Germany and its rich culture. In addition this programs could make a bridge between different people which come from different countries all over the world. Thank you again for all of your good program, help and support."
(Jamshid Karami & Mahdi Montazerolghaem, Iran)

Due to the tough work load of our target group, the excursions take place on the weekends. One or two tutors from the Welcome Center staff join the tours, share their knowledge with the participants and take care, that everybody enjoys the program.

The program is supported by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and therefore only open to PhD students and PostDocs. The participants do not pay more than 35% of the real price!

Coming events 2013:

Ballet evening at the Semper Opera
On February 10th we would like to inaugurate the cultural event´s program 2013 with a visit of the Opera in Dresden (Semperoper). There we will enjoy  “Les Ballets Russes – Reloaded”, an evening of four short old and new ballets, based on the famous “Ballet Russe” compositions. No ballet company so influenced the 20th-century intellectual world as did Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, with its signature conceptualization of dance, music and the fine arts as equal partners in a unified art form. Join us and be amazed about the famous Semper Ballet’s interpretation of these choreographies!

Until 1969, the town was dominated for around 800 years by the mining and smelting industries. In recent decades it has restructured into a high technology site in the fields of semiconductor manufacture and solar technology, part of Silicon Saxony. We’re going to discover the historic city on a guided tour and visit the Mineralogical Collection Germany “Terra Mineralia”.
