For ordinary day-to-day life and leisure time in Dresden it is very helpful to pick up some basics of German. The German language is considered to be somewhat difficult and it certainly requires a bit of motivation to learn it in the beginning. The reward, however, is that it will smooth your way into your new environment.

The VHS will assist you in finding a suitable course/level: For advice and application, please visit the VHS at Schilfweg 3, room 203 on Tuesday or Thursday from 9 am-12 noon and 2 pm-18pm. They speak English, although the homepage is in German.
