One particular expression of the recognition for the TU Dresden among industrial partners is the funding of endowed chairs. For the university they are a further step along the path of practice-oriented teaching and research. The sponsors derive both economic and communicative benefits. The endowed professorships are awarded as permanent posts in accordance with the regular appointments procedures. The endowment is generally for a period of five years, after which time the chair is continued with state funding.
