The Institutional Strategy: The Synergetic University
 

The Institutional Strategy of the TU Dresden "The Synergetic University"  is based on its unique profile not only as a comprehensive university of technology comprising the Engineering sciences, Medicine, the Natural Sciences, the Humanities and the Social Sciences, but also as the center of the strong synergetic research alliance DRESDEN-concept. This fortunate constellation creates a broad and deep expertise that allows to face major challenges to modern society, which can often only be solved by means of synergies and interdisciplinary approaches.

As the central instrument for realizing TUD’s over-all long-term development plan, the Institutional Strategy will transform the university in terms of strategic approach, structures and culture of organization.  It includes a number of strategic measures aiming at optimizing the system “university” and its interaction with other research institutions as well as improving the performance within the system itself in order to reach the full potential.
The project focuses in particular on four core issues:

• TUD people: Recruiting and supporting outstanding individuals, e.g. by implementing innovative forms of appointment and support of young scientists  
• TUD structures: Establishing integrating and efficient structures by reorganizing the 14 Faculties into 5 Schools
• TUD processes: Decentralizing and strengthening administrative and support processes
• DRESDEN-concept: Further developing the unique research alliance (www.dresden-concept.de) of the TUD and excellent non-university research institutions with the goal to maximize synergies in research, teaching and infrastructure
