ZIH, being an essential part of the Technische Universität
Dresden, has an extensive research program. The main focus of
our research, which is connected to a variety of different
scientific fields, is the promotion of scientific computing
which supports users during optimization of their applications
as well as the development of new methods to solve the growing
challenges of science and research. Our success is
naturally due to the cooperation of other reasearch groups in
an around TU Dresden.
Optimization tools are increasingly important for scientists as
the complexity of parallel computers and their applications is
increasing. These tools are the foundation for optimization and
performance analysis of program codes. An ample supply of
user-friendly, simple to handle software tools can save an
enormous amount of time in the development and diagnosis of
applications, thus leading to a more efficient utilization of
computer resources.
At ZIH, we emphasize the development and distribution of tools
that support performance analysis and program optimization. For
this purpose, exact knowledge of the underlying hardware and
their capability characteristics is important.
Additionally, the influence of our tools are monitored on
different parallel paradigm like MPI or OpenMP. Understanding
is the key for optimal run time behavior of an application on
each given architecture.
