Generations of students were shaped by the
TU Dresden. A lot of famous scientists are inseparably
connected with their Alma mater. They had a lasting
impact on their field of study and revolutionized
processes … Some of those alumni of the TUD
are:
- Carl Theodor Albrecht studied
mathematics and natural science at the Polytechnikum
Dresden, later specialised in geodesy, and co-founded
the Internationale Breitendienst, todays International
Polar Motion Service (IPMS).
- Edmund Frohne studied civil
engineering and even did his doctorate at the THD. He
later rebuilt the traffic system of the FRG and became
president of the Deutsche Bundesbahn in
1952.
- Maria Reiche studied mathematics,
astronomy, geography and foreign languages at the TH
Dresden. She became famous for her research in the Nazca
lines in Peru.
- Ernst Ludwig Kirchner was a student
of architecture at the TH Dresden. He became world
renowned as German expressionist painter and one of the
founders of the artist group
"Brücke".
The archive of our university collects data
and additional information on TUDs „early alumni“, who
graduated between 1828 and 1945. You can find more
information on the alumni project here.
What are graduates of the TUD doing
today?
14 faculties, 130 courses of study … the TU Dresden offers a
wide choice for its students. It is no surprise that graduates
of the TUD can be found in all fields of work,
e.g.:
- Stanislaw Tillich studied construction and drive
techniques till 1984. Since 2008 he is the Minister-President
of the Free State of Saxony.
- Grit Heinrich chose landscape architecture as her
field of study. Since more that 20 years she’s working as a
freelancer. Her works include green areas for schools and
castles.
- Jens Wonneberger studied civil engineering. Today
he is a prizewinning author of more than six novels.
- Maria Teresa Ponce came from Nicaragua to Dresden
to study Thermodynamics and Fluid mechanics. Today she’s a
