Apart from fundamental and subject-related applied research and development, additional responsibilities of the associated institutes consist of  further education and training for professionals, further studies and training for future academics and  broad knowledge transfer, which, in support of European development, is carried out internationally. Intensive cooperation with TU Dresden is arranged on the basis of contractual agreements. Joint activities with extramural research institutions and universities aim at creating and strengthening productive interactions between science and commercial enterprises, generating synergetic effects as well as accelerating the transfer of research results.
